Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Sunday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 22 families, and now we feed 111 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 52% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 6 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Piraeus market and keep every receipt.
Each $25 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $740
• Baby formula and diapers: $180
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $680
Thanks for reading all this.
Updates from Athina
Quick update: $63 raised so far (4%). I made the first payment toward rice, beans, flour and oil. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Thank you all. We're at 4% now ($63). I'm honestly stunned. we've started the first stage.
Small update. $58 so far, the plan for fresh vegetables and fruit is now scheduled.

- Emilia M. Watson 🇬🇧 · $28.50

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Athina
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. fresh vegetables and fruit comes first ($740) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.
Hope you get there. Greetings from Jinja
Is there anything that isn't money that would help Athina?
Thank you. If you're in Piraeus I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Thanks for asking.
Keep going, Athina. Your post was clear and honest. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Thinking of Piraeus.
take care, Athina. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. We're a small family in Comilla but we're thinking of you.
looking forward to the next update. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Love from Leeds.
Great idea, hope you get there. Greetings from Addis Ababa.
