Help Arthur keep the the Second Helping pantry stocked
Help keep a free food pantry open for neighbors in need in Feira de Santana.
🇧🇷 Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil822 views
Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Thursday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 13 families, and now we feed 255 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 49% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 11 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Feira de Santana market and keep every receipt.
Each $15 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $950 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $450
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $300
• Baby formula and diapers: $160
• Refrigeration and electricity: $40
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Arthur
It's all in the list in the story. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is the big one at $450, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. I'll keep the page updated.
Sending love. I hope things turn around soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.
Thinking of you. Looking forward to the next update. Greetings from Lahore.
How is Arthur doing now?
Sending good thoughts, Arthur. This could happen to any of us. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Hamilton.
keep going, Arthur. More neighborhoods should do this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. God bless.
Stay strong. Shared this with my family. Love from Townsville.
