Amelia was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in June. The surgeon at San Francisco General Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $5,750, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $4,400 short.
my mother has been in and out of San Francisco General Hospital since June. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $5,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Amelia struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Amelia won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
