Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Friday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 14 families, and now we feed 197 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 30% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Ciudad de México market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $800 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $360
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $290
• Baby formula and diapers: $95
• Refrigeration and electricity: $55

How is Álvaro doing now?
Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home
