Akoth was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in August. The surgeon at Nairobi Community Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,550, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,100 short. my daughter has been in and out of Nairobi Community Hospital since August. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,550 is more than we can find. While we wait, Akoth struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes.
