Embakasi
Since 2023, our volunteer team has run the Thursday Table every Friday from the back of a community center. We started with 16 families, and now we feed 396 each week. Donations have dropped by about 50% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 17 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Embakasi market and keep every receipt. Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $450 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $270 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $100 • Baby formula and diapers: $30 • Refrigeration and electricity: $50 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Akoth

  • Wishing you peace, Akoth. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Love from Tucson

    • Stay strong, Akoth. I hope things turn around soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Akoth

        • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is $270 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Appreciate you taking the time.

Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My neighbor in Amritsar donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Embakasi.

        • Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. It's not much but it's yours. Take care.

          • Sending strength, Akoth. More neighborhoods should do this. Sent it to 33 people at work. Take care.

            • thinking of you and your family. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
