Achieng was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in November. The surgeon at Nairobi General Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and She is scheduled for February. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $640, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $450 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Nairobi General Hospital since November. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $640 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Achieng struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Achieng won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
