Heatwave in Kochi: help the Eastgate district rebuild
After the heatwave, families in the Eastgate district need clean water, roofing materials and bedding.

The heatwave hit the Eastgate district on 26 August. My home was one of 46 damaged, and 4 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates.
Where the $950 goes:
• Roofing sheets and timber: $240
• Clean water and purification supplies: $170
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $90
• Food parcels for displaced families: $110
• Tools and labor for repairs: $340
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Keep going, Manisha. Hope this works out for you. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best.
