Heating shut-off notice: help Inés pay $200

Inés is behind on heating bills after my partner leaving the household and needs $200 to avoid a shut-off.

The heating account is 4 months behind. I received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on September unless I pay $200. I have never been late before my partner leaving the household. I called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $20 first, which I don't have. I live with three children under ten, and going through the rainy season without heating isn't safe. Without it we can't refrigerate insulin and food, or keep the house at a safe temperature. I'm working on getting back on my feet, and will pay forward whatever help I can once I'm steady. The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here. Where the $200 goes: • Utility arrears: $100 • Reconnection and late fees: $45 • Down payment on a payment plan: $55 Thanks for being kind about this. - Inés

Keep going, Inés. This could happen to any of us. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.

    • Wishing you the best, Inés. Shared this with my family. Put this on a community board in Peoria this morning. All the best.
