Heather was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in June. The surgeon at Chicago Regional Medical Center recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $8,250, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $5,750 short.
my sister has been in and out of Chicago Regional Medical Center since June. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $8,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Heather struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Heather won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
