Heather was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in April. The surgeon at Las Cruces University Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $10,000, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $4,950 short.
my mother has been in and out of Las Cruces University Hospital since April. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $10,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Heather struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Heather won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
