Giza building collapse relief - the Sunrise settlement
The building collapse damaged 78 homes in the Sunrise settlement. We're raising funds for repairs, supplies and temporary shelter.

The building collapse hit the Sunrise settlement on 11 December. My home was one of 78 damaged, and 6 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates.
Where the $900 goes:
• Clean water and purification supplies: $190
• Food parcels for displaced families: $240
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $180
• Tools and labor for repairs: $290
Thanks for being kind about this.

Thinking of you, Duha. Great idea, hope you get there. Greetings from Surabaya.
Take care, Duha. Shared it with a few friends. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.
Sending love, Duha. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. After 10 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Giza.
Wishing you the best. Your post was clear and honest. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Greetings from Dhaka
