Gareth was diagnosed with cervical cancer in April. The oncology team at Johannesburg Regional Medical Center has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in July. He will be away from work for about 7 weeks.
Gareth is 26, worked as a hairdresser until April, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Johannesburg Regional Medical Center 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $3,550 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,350
• Scans and lab work: $360
• Transport to Johannesburg Regional Medical Center: $180
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $95
• Household costs while unable to work: $565

Chemotherapy and medication not covered is $2,350 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.
