Ximena was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in August. The surgeon at Saint Francis Hospital recommended gallbladder removal, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,000, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $6,750 short. my mother has been in and out of Saint Francis Hospital since August. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without gallbladder removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Ximena struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Ximena won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $6,750 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,750 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,250 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $390 • Post-operative medication: $260 • Physiotherapy sessions: $760 • Travel and lodging for the family: $340 Thank you for reading my story.
