Gallbladder removal for Temitope: covering what insurance won't
Temitope needs gallbladder removal at Kano Orthopedic Institute and the family is $1,100 short of the hospital's estimate.
🇳🇬 Kano, Kano, Nigeria260 views
In February I was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections. My surgeon at Kano Orthopedic Institute recommended gallbladder removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for May. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,550, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $1,100 short.
Doctors at Kano Orthopedic Institute told me gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without gallbladder removal. I work as a school bus driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,550 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a school bus driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $390
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $510
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $75
• Post-operative medication: $20
• Physiotherapy sessions: $65
• Travel and lodging for the family: $40
I hope life is good to you.

Sending love. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Kano
Hope things get better soon. Looking forward to the next update. Sent it to 27 people at work.
