Gallbladder removal for Modupe: covering what insurance won't
After a herniated spinal disc, Modupe was cleared for gallbladder removal, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Modupe was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in August. The surgeon at Kano University Hospital recommended gallbladder removal, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $1,300 short.
my sister has been in and out of Kano University Hospital since August. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without gallbladder removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Modupe struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Modupe won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.

• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $45
• Post-operative medication: $50
• Physiotherapy sessions: $120

Surgeon and anesthesia fees is $570 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Good question.
