Gallbladder removal for Kirana: covering what insurance won't
Kirana needs gallbladder removal at Saint Mary Hospital and the family is $1,200 short of the hospital's estimate.

Kirana was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in February. The surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended gallbladder removal, and She is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,500, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,200 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Saint Mary Hospital since February. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without gallbladder removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,500 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Kirana struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Kirana won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $550
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $400
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $50
• Post-operative medication: $55
• Physiotherapy sessions: $125
• Travel and lodging for the family: $20

Wishing you peace. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. My husband and I read this together. God bless.
Rooting for you, Ika. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My neighbor had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
So sorry you're going through this. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Love from Gazipur.
