Gallbladder removal for Amal: covering what insurance won't
After a torn ligament that needs reconstruction, Amal was cleared for gallbladder removal, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In August I was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction. My surgeon at 6th of October City University Hospital recommended gallbladder removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,450, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $1,000 short.
Doctors at 6th of October City University Hospital told me a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without gallbladder removal. I work as a warehouse packer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,450 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a warehouse packer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to climb stairs during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $270
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $430
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $70
• Post-operative medication: $50
• Physiotherapy sessions: $125
• Travel and lodging for the family: $55
Thanks for being kind about this.

Good luck, Amal. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I have a 13 year old who wants to send good wishes too. God bless.
