Hiwot, my sister, passed away on 26 January after a short illness. She was 71 years old. She was the heart of our family and had no savings or life insurance. The funeral home has given us a quote of $300 and the cemetery needs payment before the burial date of 8 February. I have already used what I had for the hospital bills. My family is scattered, and many of us are out of work. We want Hiwot to have a dignified farewell. Any help at all means a lot, and so do your prayers. Anything left over after the funeral will be donated to the Addis Ababa hospice. Where the $300 goes: • Transport of the deceased: $55 • Cemetery plot and burial fees: $190 • Memorial gathering for the family: $55 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
