Friendly visitor needed for an 88-year-old neighbor in Thika

Akello lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

Thika
I'm writing for my neighbor Akello, who's 88. Akello lives alone in Thika, and lost a spouse of many years last year. The nearest family lives on the other side of the country. Akello loves old films, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Tuesday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

  • Keep going. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Thika!

    • Thinking of you, Apio. Hope the doctors have good news. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home

      • Good luck, Apio. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Greetings from Paarl!

        • sending good thoughts. Shared this with my family. My neighbor in Dar es Salaam donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.
