Friendly visitor needed for a 78-year-old neighbor in Johannesburg

Busisiwe lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Busisiwe, who's 78. Busisiwe lives alone in Johannesburg, and lost a spouse of many years last year. The nearest family lives 553 kilometers away. Busisiwe loves baking, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Thursday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Thank you for reading my story.

  • hope the doctors have good news. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Love from Glasgow

    • Keep going. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Love from Hyderabad.

      • Rooting for you, Tshepo. Get well soon. We're a small family in Santos but we're thinking of you

        • Praying for you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.

          • Take care. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Wish I lived closer to Thane so I could bring a meal. Thinking of Johannesburg.

            • keep going. Hope the doctors have good news. Greetings from Melbourne.
