For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Park, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $2,800. It will serve about 574 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,800 goes: • Materials: $1,950 • Permits and inspections: $145 • Safety equipment and signage: $340 • Tools hire and delivery: $365 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
