Freedom Beach cleanup and restoration: help our volunteer crew
Volunteers are restoring Freedom Beach in Mumbai; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇳 India1,193 views
Freedom Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 83 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 98 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $40
• Tools and protective gear: $30
• Native saplings and stakes: $230
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Wanted to say thank you properly. 4% funded and the first invoice got paid this week.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($48 in total) I made the first payment toward tools and protective gear. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Sending love, Sowmya. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did.
