Kasarani

The flood hit the Lakeview settlement on 24 May. My home was one of 55 damaged, and 14 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $1,100 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $570 • Food parcels for displaced families: $175 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $170 • Clean water and purification supplies: $185 Every share and every dollar helps.

Updates from Awino

Small update. $249 so far, we've started the first stage.
Quick update: $159 raised so far (14%). I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($59 in total) I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely. - Awino

Best of luck. Looking forward to the next update. After 23 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

Good luck. More neighborhoods should do this. Put this on a community board in Johannesburg this morning
