Flood in Dar es Salaam: help the Eastgate district rebuild
After the flood, families in the Eastgate district need clean water, roofing materials and bedding.
🇹🇿 Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania1,293 views
The flood hit the Eastgate district on 23 July. My home was one of 24 damaged, and 5 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters.
Where the $850 goes:
• Roofing sheets and timber: $320
• Clean water and purification supplies: $85
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $145
• Food parcels for displaced families: $105
• Tools and labor for repairs: $195
Thank you for reading my story.
