The flash flood hit Lakeview village on 28 April. My home was one of 16 damaged, and 9 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $1,050 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $580 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $140 • Clean water and purification supplies: $75 • Food parcels for displaced families: $255 Every share and every dollar helps.

Updates from Jamal

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($260 in total) I made the first payment toward roofing sheets and timber. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Quick update: $250 raised so far (24%). the first invoice got paid this week. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

Thinking of you, Jamal. This could happen to any of us. My neighbor in Kasarani donated after I showed her your page.
