Fighting thyroid cancer: help Rita afford treatment in Tema
12 rounds of treatment are planned at Tema University Hospital; we're asking for help with the costs insurance doesn't cover.
🇬🇭 Tema, Greater Accra, Ghana862 views
Rita was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in February. The oncology team at Tema University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in May. She will be away from work for about 8 weeks.
Rita is 44, worked as a bus conductor until February, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Tema University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes.
Where the $1,800 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,100
• Scans and lab work: $210
• Transport to Tema University Hospital: $130
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $135
• Household costs while unable to work: $225
Glad we found this place.
