Otieno is facing stomach cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Fort Portal
Otieno was diagnosed with stomach cancer in January. The oncology team at Fort Portal Regional Medical Center has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in April. He will be away from work for about 4 weeks. Otieno is 24, worked as a nurse until January, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Fort Portal Regional Medical Center 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $1,800 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,100 • Scans and lab work: $195 • Transport to Fort Portal Regional Medical Center: $75 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $105 • Household costs while unable to work: $325 Thank you for reading my story. - Esther

  3. Update from Fort Portal: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 25% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  • you're not alone, Esther. Wishing Otieno a smooth procedure and a full recovery. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

    • So sorry you're going through this, Esther. This could happen to any of us. Take care.

      • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Otieno.

Chemotherapy and medication not covered is $1,100 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Thanks, that means a lot.

      • Good luck. Your post was clear and honest. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out
