Fighting stomach cancer: help Carter afford treatment in Los Angeles

Carter was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August. The oncology team at the Los Angeles Oncology Institute has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in December. He will be away from work for about 4 weeks.
Carter is 44, worked as a bus conductor until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Los Angeles Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $8,700 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $1,400
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,500
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,200
• Transport to the Los Angeles Oncology Institute: $600

What exactly is the $8,700 for?
Sure. The biggest one is scans and lab work, $1,400. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Good question.
