In May I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. My oncology team at Chandler University Hospital has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in August. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 32, I worked as a farmer until May, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Chandler University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $11,000 goes:
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $680
• Scans and lab work: $1,500
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,500
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,320
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
