Wollongong
In May I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My oncology team at Wollongong University Hospital has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 44, I worked as a farmer until May, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Wollongong University Hospital 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $10,200 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,500 • Scans and lab work: $1,600 • Transport to Wollongong University Hospital: $830 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $710 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,560 Every share and every dollar helps. - Colton
