Apio was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January. The oncology team at Mwanza Cancer Centre has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in April. She will be away from work for about 10 weeks. Apio is 36, worked as a farmer until January, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Mwanza Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $950 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $460 • Scans and lab work: $195 • Transport to Mwanza Cancer Centre: $150 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $60 • Household costs while unable to work: $85 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Updates from Kipchoge

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($589 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($514 in total) I made the first payment toward household costs while unable to work. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Wanted to say thank you properly. 28% funded and I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts.

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. chemotherapy and medication not covered comes first ($460) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Fair thing to want to know.

        • Keep going, Kipchoge. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'll check back for the next update. Thinking of Mwanza.

          • Hope things get better soon, Kipchoge. Shared it with a few friends!

            • good luck, Kipchoge. Wishing Apio a smooth procedure and a full recovery.
