Mekonnen was diagnosed with colon cancer in February. The oncology team at Addis Ababa Regional Medical Center has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in May. He will be away from work for about 3 weeks. Mekonnen is 55, worked as a cleaner at a hospital until February, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Addis Ababa Regional Medical Center 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
