In May I was diagnosed with colon cancer. My oncology team at the Shinjuku Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 24, I worked as a shop owner until May, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Shinjuku Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $4,950 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,100 • Household costs while unable to work: $780 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $550 • Scans and lab work: $520 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
