Medellín
In February I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My oncology team at Medellín Cancer Centre has planned 6 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in May. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 35, I worked as a farmer until February, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Medellín Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,000 • Scans and lab work: $380 • Transport to Medellín Cancer Centre: $260 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $80 • Household costs while unable to work: $380 Thanks for reading all this. - Emilio
