Fernando's thyroid cancer treatment fund
Fernando is facing thyroid cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In April I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. My oncology team at Bacoor Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 55, I worked as a shop owner until April, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Bacoor Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,250
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $80
• Household costs while unable to work: $170
