In October I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. My oncology team at Kumasi Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in February. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 37, I worked as a hairdresser until October, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Kumasi Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $250 goes: • Scans and lab work: $110 • Transport to Kumasi Cancer Centre: $90 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $50 Every share and every dollar helps.
