Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Monday from the back of a community center. We started with 19 families, and now we feed 87 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 51% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 14 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Dundee market and keep every receipt.
Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Baby formula and diapers: $590
• Refrigeration and electricity: $300
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $810

Quick update: $135 raised so far (8%). I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Update from Dundee: the plan for rice, beans, flour and oil is now scheduled. We're at 7% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
