Feed 375 families each week at Open Hands Pantry in Negombo

The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Negombo is running low just as demand rises; $400 will stock it for 6 weeks.

Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Monday from the back of a community center. We started with 23 families, and now we feed 375 each week. Donations have dropped by about 34% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Negombo market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $400 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $180 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $120 • Baby formula and diapers: $70 • Refrigeration and electricity: $30 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
