Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Friday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 28 families, and now we feed 356 each week. Donations have dropped by about 31% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 13 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Oakland market and keep every receipt. Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $3,950 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,900 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,350 • Baby formula and diapers: $310 • Refrigeration and electricity: $390 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
