Feed 306 families each week at the Thursday Table in Shubra
Help keep a free food pantry open for families facing hunger in Shubra.
🇪🇬 Shubra, Cairo, Egypt1,610 views
Since 2023, our volunteer team has run the Thursday Table every Friday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 15 families, and now we feed 306 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 48% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 8 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Shubra market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $400 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $220
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $95
• Baby formula and diapers: $40
• Refrigeration and electricity: $45
With deep gratitude,
Salma
