Bahir Dar
Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Saturday from the back of a community center. We started with 22 families, and now we feed 283 each week. Donations have dropped by about 60% this summer, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 9 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Bahir Dar market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $350 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $165 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $95 • Baby formula and diapers: $55 • Refrigeration and electricity: $35 If you're reading this, thank you. - Samuel

Updates from Samuel

  1. We're at 20% thanks to 2 of you. I made the first payment toward rice, beans, flour and oil. More news soon.

  2. Update from Bahir Dar: I made the first payment toward baby formula and diapers. We're at 14% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 14% now ($50). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts.
