Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Sunday Shelf every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 25 families, and now we feed 272 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 43% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Manila market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $350 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $80
• Refrigeration and electricity: $65
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $205
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Stay strong. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. It's not much but it's yours. Blessings
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sheila.
Sure. The biggest one is fresh vegetables and fruit, $80. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.
stay strong, Sheila. Looking forward to the next update. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out. Love from Salvador!
Keep going. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out. All the best.
Stay strong. Shared it with a few friends. I'm in social work myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Take care.
Rooting for you, Sheila. Hope you get there. Blessings
Stay strong. I hope things turn around soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.
