Feed 234 families each week at Bread & Beans Kitchen in Dehiwala
The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Dehiwala is running low just as demand rises; $400 will stock it for 8 weeks.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Friday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 234 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 37% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 14 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Dehiwala market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $400 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $175
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $80
• Baby formula and diapers: $100
• Refrigeration and electricity: $45
With deep gratitude,
Nalin

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Nalin.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is the biggest at $175. Thanks for asking.
thinking of you and your family, Nalin. This could happen to any of us. I hope October is when things finally get easier. Take care.
thinking of you and your family. Shared this with my family. Wish I lived closer to Jakarta Barat so I could bring a meal. Blessings.
Wishing you the best, Nalin. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes.
You're not alone, Nalin. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I'll check back for the next update. Greetings from Quezon City
Praying for you. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless.
