Feed 200 families each week at the Sunday Shelf in Nagpur
Help keep a free food pantry open for neighbors in need in Nagpur.
🇮🇳 Maharashtra, India626 views
Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Sunday Shelf every Wednesday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 13 families, and now we feed 200 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 60% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Nagpur market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $450 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $195
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $230
• Refrigeration and electricity: $25
Glad we found this place.

Great idea, hope you get there. It's not much but it's yours. Thinking of Nagpur.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Rafiq.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. fresh vegetables and fruit comes first ($195) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Appreciate you taking the time.
thanks for sharing this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Sent it to 16 people at work
