Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Wednesday from the back of a community center. We started with 10 families, and now we feed 187 each week. Donations have dropped by about 30% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Los Angeles market and keep every receipt. Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $2,450 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,350 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $400 • Baby formula and diapers: $570 • Refrigeration and electricity: $130 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Wendy

  1. Small update. $1,088 so far, we've booked the dates and paid the deposit.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($764 in total) the plan for baby formula and diapers is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Quick update: $669 raised so far (27%). I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
