Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Friday from the back of a community center. We started with 9 families, and now we feed 163 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 36% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 20 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Mendoza market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $900 goes:
• Baby formula and diapers: $145
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $490
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $265

Hope things get better soon, Soledad. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
