Mbale

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Saturday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 22 families, and now we feed 132 each week. Donations have dropped by about 39% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 12 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Mbale market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $450 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $260 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $125 • Baby formula and diapers: $25 • Refrigeration and electricity: $40 Thanks for being kind about this.

Updates from Upendo

Thank you all. We're at 101% now ($454). I'm honestly stunned. we've started the first stage.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($409 in total) I made the first payment toward fresh vegetables and fruit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Quick update: $73 raised so far (16%). I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
