Half-Way Tree
Since 2021, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Wednesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 18 families, and now we feed 124 each week. Donations have dropped by about 41% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 16 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Half-Way Tree market and keep every receipt. Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $1,000 goes: • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $250 • Baby formula and diapers: $210 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $540 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Sherika

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sherika.

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. fresh vegetables and fruit comes first ($250) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Thanks for looking so closely.

  • This could happen to any of us. Wish I lived closer to Akron so I could bring a meal. Love from Munich.
