In April I was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. My oncology team at Lagos University Hospital has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in June. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 43, I worked as a bakery worker until April, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Lagos University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $950 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $520
• Household costs while unable to work: $290
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $140

The list at the bottom is the whole picture. chemotherapy and medication not covered is the biggest at $520. Thanks for looking so closely.
